The Malone University volleyball team came up short on Saturday losing matches at home to NCAA DII #2 Ferris State (MI) 14-25, 22-25, 16-25 and NCAA DII #10 Wheeling Jesuit (WV) 15-25, 7-25, 14-25.
In the first match of the afternoon, the visiting Bulldogs played up to their #2 ranking limiting the Pioneers to just 25 kills and 33 points. Ferris State outhit Malone .270 to .063 for the match.
For the Pioneers, Mallory Adams led the team with 6 kills while Haley Kool and Veronica Gehring added 5 each. Lynsey Trusty contributed a team-high 3 service aces. Maggie Hamrock supplied 10 digs for the defense. Cathryn Miller added 8 digs to go along with her 21 assists.
In the nightcap, Wheeling Jesuit, who defeated Ferris State in three sets earlier in the afternoon, was simply too much for the Pioneers. The Cardinals held Malone to a -.027 attack percentage as they limited the Pioneers to just 23 kills to go along with 26 attack errors.
Mallory Adams again led the offense as she contributed a game-high 10 kills. Elizabeth Maczuzak played well on defense collecting 12 digs and 3 blocks. Maggie Hamrock added 11 digs. Setter Cathryn Miller assisted on all 23 of Malone's kills while chipping in with 9 digs and 3 blocks on defense.
Malone dropped to 4-10 on the year and 0-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC).
The Pioneers will look for their first GLIAC win when they travel to play Walsh on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:00 pm.
