The Malone University volleyball team suffered two losses Friday at Lewis (IL) University's Flyer Festival.
Game one saw the Pioneers fall in five hard-fought sets against Maryville (MO) University 25-17, 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 12-15.
Outside hitter Mallory Adams led Malone with 15 kills in the match. Libero Maggie Hamrock topped the team with 24 digs while setter Cathryn Miller dished out 38 assists and contributed 3 service aces. Elizabeth Maczuzak continued her strong senior year after posting 10 kills and 16 digs in the two hour match.
The Pioneers lost three sets to none in Friday's second match. They were outscored by Minnesota State Mankato 20-25, 12-25, and 19-25.
Senior Sarah Brent led the way with 5 kills and a .333 attack percentage. Â Junior middle hitter Haley Kool and freshman outside hitter Veronica Gehring added 4 kills apiece. Cathryn Miller added 18 assists and a team high 6 digs. The Pioneers were outhit by the Mavericks .160 to .435
The Pioneers are back in action with two more matches Saturday. They square off against Saint Francis (IL) University at 11:00 am before finishing the weekend with a match against the host Lewis University Flyers at 3:30 pm.
