Student-Athlete Spotlight: This week's "Get to know the Student-Athlete" segment features junior volleyball player
Heather Papp. Papp appeared in 22 matches this season, where she tallied 12 assists, recorded 86 digs (1.21 digs per set) and had a season-high 11 digs in Malone's victory at Northwood University (MI). In addition, she was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team.
Why did you pick Malone?I picked Malone because of the opportunity to play volleyball here and it seemed like a good fit. It is also close to home for me so I can still be close to my family
What's your fondest memory at Malone? The combination of all the memories with my team and volleyball including: all the practices, games, travel, and much more.Â
What sports did you play in high school?I played volleyball, softball, and basketball.
What's your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?Probably when I was playing 10U travel ball, I stole second base and didn't realize there was already a person on second. I had to run back to first and got out..oops.
Who has been your biggest role model?   Â
My parents have always been my biggest role models because I look up to them and they are so incredibly hard working and loving. I am also very blessed to be surrounded by many peers that I can look to as positive influences.Â
What's your favorite Bible verse?I have a few I think it depends on what my life is like that day. Two of my favorites are John 15 and Proverbs 3:5. John 15:17 says, "This is my command: Love each other." Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not o your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him."Â
What's your favorite professional sport team(s)?I like all the Cleveland teams: Indians, Cavs, and Browns.
What's your game-day routine? My game-day routine is pretty simple. If it is a weekend game I have DS practice in the morning, go eat, go to the training room, then spend the next hour or so in the locker room getting my warm up and shoes on and listening to music/dancing with the team.Â
What do you like to do in your down time?Well I don't really get a lot of down time, but in the small amount that I just like to hang out with my friends and teammatesÂ
What are your goals for the future?I hope to graduate and possibly go to Grad school or get a job in athletics or advising at the higher education level.Â
