Women's Basketball Preview Notes: Pioneers Ready to Open Conference Play

Rachel Goddard is number one in the GLIAC with a 17:2 assist to turnover ratio

The Malone University women's basketball team will begin Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) play this week when they travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to meet Michigan Tech on Thursday and Northern Michigan on Saturday

  • Senior forward Danielle Blake, a 2014-15 All-GLIAC First Team and GLIAC All-Defensive Team selection, leads the team in points (56), rebounds (42), assists (20), steals (9), and blocks (7)...She is 4th in the conference in rebounds, 2nd in assists, and 2nd in blocks.
  • Center Kylie Moxley is averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest
  • Junior guard Kelli Guy (12.3 ppg) is shooting 50% (13-26) from beyond the arc...she is 2nd in the conference in three-point makes
  • The starting five is rounded out by Morgan Anderson (9.0 ppg, 4.0 assists & 1.3 steals per game) and Brenna Heise (9.8 ppg, 1.5 blocks per game)

  • The Wildcats dropped last season's meeting with the Pioneers 52-48...they were the 2013-14 GLIAC Tournament champions, beating Malone 53-49 in the 2014 title game
  • Through four games, junior guard Bre Gaspervich leads the team in points (50), three-pointers made (9), assists (14), and steals (6)
  • Freshman guard Chloe Tompkins is averaging 8.8 points a game...she is 7-16 (43.8%) from long range
  • 6'4" center Taylor Hodell is coming off the bench to tally 9 points and 4.3 boards per game
  • 5'10" guard Anna Liewen leads the team with 5.5 rebounds a night
  • The Wildcats are 3rd in the conference in three-point attempts per game (23.0) and 4th in made three-pointers (7.5)
  • Northern Michigan was defeated 59-51 by Minot State (ND) in its last game...Gaspervich led all scorers with 20
