Volleyball Comes up Short Against Findlay on Senior Day

The Malone University volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Findlay in front of an enthusiastic Senior Day crowd 20-25, 25-20, 19-25, 17-25.

The Pioneers traded points with the Oilers for much of the first three sets, before Findlay closed out the match with a strong fourth-set effort. Malone held Findlay, who came into the match hitting a GLIAC-leading .284 as a team, to .184 and .216 attacking percentages in the first two sets before the Oilers came on strong to hit .288 over the final two frames.  The Pioneers tallied 8.0 total blocks and forced the Oilers into 23 attacking errors.

Senior Elizabeth Maczuzak led the Pioneers in her final home match, recording 12 kills and a .435 hitting average. Haley Kool finished with 7 kills while Jordan Cloyd added 6 kills and 4 service aces. Maggie Hamrock chipped in with 3 service aces. Setter Cathryn Miller assisted on 30 of Malone's 35 kills.

Defensively, Haley Kool led the way with 7 blocks while Senior Sarah Brent tied a career-high with 6 blocks. Hamrock collected a team-high 11 digs while Maczuzak earned her 7th double-double of the season, collecting 10 digs.

Hannah Tong finished with 19 kills and a .412 hitting percentage while teammate Nickyla Garverick added 14 kills on a .609 attacking percentage for the Oilers.

The Pioneers, now 10-21 on the year and 3-13 in the GLIAC, will finish out the season next weekend as they travel to Tiffin and Ohio Dominican.
