Box ScoreThe Malone University men's basketball team fell on the road to Cleveland State University on Tuesday night by the final score of 62-46 in an exhibition contest against the NCAA Division I Vikings.
The Vikings held an early 11-4 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run, including a jump shot by
Mitchell Spotleson who tied the game up at 11-11 with 8:45 left in the first half. Spotleson then hit another jump shot to take the 14-13 lead with 7:08 remaining in the first half.
The Pioneers were able to hold the lead for the remainder of the half, finishing with a 23-22 advantage at intermission.
The second half was a different story as the Vikings scored 21 points to Malone's seven in the first ten minutes of the second half. Cleveland State would continue to dominate, scoring an additional 19 points in the final 10 minutes to seal the 62-46 victory.
Sophomores Spotleson and
Nate Sheppard paced Malone with 11 points each. Spotleson led MU with seven rebounds, while Sheppard chipped in six rebounds.
Christian Graves added seven points and four assists. Â
Cleveland State's Demonte Flannigan finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
The Vikings held the slight 43 to 35 rebound advantage, while shooting 43.1% from the field to Malone's 31.5%.
The Pioneers will host their home opener on Tuesday, November 24th at 7:30 p.m. against Ohio Christian University.
