The Malone University volleyball team lost in three sets 21-25, 13-25, 5-25 to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) opponent Northwood University(MI) on breast cancer awareness night Friday in Osborne Hall.
Northwood's defense proved to be too much for Malone as the Timberwolves tallied 54 digs and 6 blocks in the three-set contest. The Pioneers finished with a season-low 20 kills and hit just .020 for the match, while Northwood, by contrast, amassed 44 kills and hit .286 for the match, including a .500 figure in the final set.
For the Pioneers, Sarah Brent finished with a team-high 6 kills while Elizabeth Maczuzak added 5. Cathryn Miller assisted on 17 of Malone's 20 team kills.
Defensively, Jordan Cloyd and Heather Papp collected a team-high 7 digs apiece while Miller added 6 digs and a solo block.
For the Timberwolves, Krysta Kramer, coming in averaging over 3.03 kills per set, registered a game-high 15 kills.
The Pioneers will play again tomorrow (October 24th) at 1:00 and 3:30 pm against Lake Superior State (MI) and Alderson Broaddus (WV). Preview notes can be found by clicking here.
