The Malone University Volleyball team couldn't keep the momentum from Tuesday's thrilling victory over Walsh University as they were downed on the road by Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) adversary Wayne State (MI) University 20-25, 19-25, 15-25.
The Pioneers had an early 10-5 advantage in the first set that forced Wayne State into a timeout. Using the timeout to their advantage, the Warriors won 10 of the next 11 points to go up 15-11. Malone couldn't stage a comeback, falling short 20-25 in the first set. The Pioneers' 2-0 lead in the second set was short lived as the Warriors' pressure proved to be too much for Malone who fell to 5-11 on the year and 1-5 in the GLIAC.
Senior
Elizabeth Maczuzak again led the Pioneers' offensive attack with a .316 attack percentage and 9 kills.
Sarah Brent and
Mallory Adams added 5 kills each.
Cathryn Miller added 23 assists on Malone's 28 team kills.
Maggie Hamrock had a game-high 11 digs while
Jordan Cloyd added 8 more.
Malone struggled on defense for most of the night giving up a season-high 11 service aces and allowing Wayne State to hit .323 for the match. Wayne State's Ellie Rodriguez, the GLIAC's leader in service aces per set, added 6 more on the evening.
The Pioneers will look to rebound tomorrow when they travel to meet Saginaw Valley State (MI) at 2:00 pm. Live stats for the match will be available at:
