Archived Video BroadcastThe Malone University men's basketball team won its home contest over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Ohio Dominican University by the final score of 81-67 on Saturday afternoon.
Back-to-back three pointers by
Stephen O'Daniel III and
Nate Sheppard would start a 8-0 run half-way through the first half to give the Pioneers a 22-14 lead. But, then it was the Panthers turn as they would go on an 8-0 run to tie the ball game 22-22 with 6:25 on the clock. O'Daniel III answered back making another three-pointer to put Malone ahead 25-22.
Brian Stone made a layup with 50 seconds left in the first to extend the lead to 33-28 at intermission.
Stone started the second half with the hot hand, scoring Malone's first four points to increase the lead to 37-28. Midway through the second half Malone would outscore the Panthers 17-4 over a six-minute span including a pair of three-pointers by Sheppard and O'Daniel III to make the score 62-41 at the 8:47 mark. Malone would continue to explode on the offensive end, leading by as much as 21 points the rest of the way.
The Pioneers finished the game shooting 54.7% from the field, making a total of 10 three-pointers.
Ben Haraway led all scorers with 19 points, shooting 7-9 field goals. Teammates
Brian Stone and
Nate Sheppard chipped in 17 points. Stone also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots. O'Daniel III added 11 points and five assists.
Malone continues conference play at home as Wayne State University (MI) comes to town on Thursday, January 29
th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
