The Malone University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a home Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win against Lake Erie College Thursday night 67-65. With the win, the Pioneers improved to 6-7 overall and to 4-5 in the GLIAC while the Storm fell to 7-8 overall and 2-7 in GLIAC play.

The Storm would go on a 5-0 run early on in the contest to hold a 17-15 lead with 11:39 remaining in the first half. However, the momentum changed when Pioneer freshman Alahna Singleton made a jumper at the 11:02 mark to tie the ball game 17-17. The Pioneers continued on a 9-0 string to extend their lead to 24-17 with 8:38 left. The Storm did not back down, though, as they went on a 5-0 run to sneak back to within one at the 6:47 mark making the score 24-23. Malone never trailed again, though, in the first half and went into halftime leading 36-32. The Pioneers made 52% of their field goals while shooting 88.9% from the free throw line in the first half.

Malone would hold on to the lead for the first six minutes of the second half until Lake Erie made a layup to take its first lead of the half at 44-43 with 14:22 remaining. After that, a back-and-forth battle ensued with the two teams exchanging buckets and staying close for the remainder of the contest. With 36 seconds left in the game, the Storm made a free throw to take a one-point advantage 65-64. But the Storm then fouled forward Sarah Bardall, sending her to the free throw line, where she hit the first but missed the second to tie the game at 65-65 with 26 seconds left. On the miss, though, the Pioneers brought down the rebound at which point guard Audrey Myers made a layup with 21 seconds left to give Malone the 67-65 lead. Lake Erie attempted a three-point shot with one second left but it came up short of the rim and the hosts held on for the two-point win.
 
Malone was led by Singleton who finished with a season-high 16 points and five rebounds. Guard Rachel Goddard had 11 points and guard Alyssa Brandon added 8 points. Forward Lindsy Snyder finished with 13 rebounds, which tied her season high.  The Storm were led by Christine Dawson who finished with 19 points.

For its next contest, the Pioneers will head to GLIAC opponent Ashland University (9-6, 5-4) on Saturday, January 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Live stats and live audio will be available.
