Men’s Soccer Ties Lake Erie 1-1 in Double Overtime

The Malone University men's soccer team recorded its first tie of the season, 1-1, in double overtime against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponent Lake Erie College Friday afternoon.   

The Storm wasted no time scoring as they got their first goal in the 12th minute of the first half to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers were able to calm the Storm as the score remained 1-0 at the half.

Freshmen Nick Astalos scored his second career goal in the 54th minute of the second half to make it a tie game at one apiece.

After 90 minutes of action, the Pioneers went into their first overtime match of the season.

Junior goalie Jon Crabbs came up huge, Friday afternoon, as he saved his first penalty shot in the 93rd minute of the first overtime. Crabbs had nine saves on the game. He currently ranks first in the GLIAC in saves (39).

The Pioneers, now 1-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the GLIAC, will head to Columbus to take on GLIAC opponent Ohio Dominican University on Sunday, September 28th at 2:00 p.m.
