The Malone University volleyball team squared off against GLIAC opponent and NCAA Div. II national power Grand Valley State University (MI) on GVSU's home court Friday night but lost a 3-0 contest to the #17 ranked Lakers by the score of 20-25, 22-25, 14-25.

With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 2-6 overall and to 0-3 in the GLIAC while the Lakers improved to 5-2 overall and to 3-0 in conference play.

Outside hitter Shelbi Meek topped the offense with seven kills while outside hitter Sarah Brent followed with six kills and middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak added four kills. Setter Jordan Sollars offered up 11 assists in the match. For the Pioneer defensive effort, defensive specialist/libero Katie Hasebein posted 21 digs.

Malone will next compete against another nationally-ranked GLIAC foe as the Pioneers face #15 ranked Ferris State University (MI), with a current record of 5-2 (3-0 GLIAC), on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. match.
