Volleyball Loses Five-Set Contest At Tiffin

Junior Elizabeth Maczuzak led the Pioneer defense with four solo blocks and three block assists as Malone fell to Tiffin in a five-set match.

The Malone University volleyball team lost a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest on the road Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers fell to the host Tiffin University Dragons by the score of 23-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 10-15.

The tough five-set loss dropped Malone's overall record to 2-5 and to 0-2 in the GLIAC while Tiffin improved to 4-1 overall and to 2-0 in conference play.

Three Pioneer players tallied double-digit kills on the day led by outside hitter Shelbi Meek with 14. Fellow outside hitters Anna Hays and Taylor Slauterbeck tallied 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Setter Jordan Sollars paced the team in assists with 29 while Brianna Clegg followed with 20 assists. Defensive specialist/libero Katie Hasebein racked up 31 digs for the contest.  In addition, middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak paced the defensive effort with four solo blocks and three block assists.

Malone will next compete at NCAA Div. II #18 and GLIAC opponent Grand Valley State University (MI) on Friday, September 19th in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
