The Malone University men's soccer team fell short at home Friday night as the Pioneers started their GLIAC conference schedule with a loss to rival Walsh University, 1-0.
 
It's always an exciting atmosphere when two rivals go against each other and Friday was no different. Both teams played hard and aggressive as the score at the half was 0-0.
 
In the second half, Walsh came out and scored three minutes into the period to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Each team had plenty of scoring opportunities, but neither team reaped the benefits. Malone out-shot Walsh 28-22, while the Cavaliers held a 12-9 shot on goal advantage. Pioneer keeper Jon Crabbs had a season-high 11 saves.
