Team Results             Individual Results

Among an impressive 29-team field at the two-day NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Saturday and Sunday, the Malone University men's golf team captured the event while the Pioneers' Nathan Tarter earned medalist honors with teammate Tyler Light just one shot back as the individual runner-up.

At the par 71, 6673-yard Elks Runs Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio, Malone posted a 36-hole total of 578 (292-286), +10 for the tournament, to easily defeat runner-up and GLIAC opponent Ferris State University (MI), which posted a 596 total, by an impressive 18 strokes.  The two schools were tied for the lead after the first day, though, before Malone recorded its blistering team round of +2 on the second and final day.

Quincy University (IL), which posted a 295 on day two and was the closest to the Pioneers' second-day score (nine shots back), finished third overall at 598 (303-295).  Cedarville University at 599 (296-303), and Saginaw Valley State University (MI), also at 599 (302-297), tied for fourth place.

For Malone, Tarter's first-day round of 68 placed him in a tie for the lead at three-under-par and his final round of 70 (-1) gave him the individual tournament championship at 138 (-4).  Light, after pocketing an even-par round of 71 on the first day, made a charge at the medalist crown as he matched Tarter's low single round of 68 on day two.  Light finished just one shot behind Tarter at 139 (-3) and was one of only three players, among the 145 participants, to finish under par for the tournament.

Jay Hollified was next for Malone and fired a 151 total (76-75) to finish in a tie for 24th. Jon Clark followed at 154 (77-77) to come in 56th while Garrison Myles tallied a 156 (83-73) to place 75th.

Malone will next compete in its own Spring Classic, at the Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance, Ohio, this Friday and Saturday (April 11-12) in an event that was originally scheduled for March 28-29 but was cancelled due to weather.
