Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Malone University softball team (10-28-1, 2-22 GLIAC) ran into a potent Ohio Dominican University (25-25, 21-5 GLIAC) offense on Saturday, dropping games by scores of 20-4 and 13-3.
Things started promisingly for the Pioneers as they plated four runs in the top of the first inning of game one behind two-rbi doubles from sophomore
Desi Hengoed and junior
Stephanie Byrne. The Panthers responded with eight runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to put Malone behind the eight-ball early. A nine-run fourth inning ended all hopes of a comeback.
Sophomore
Emily Isla led Malone with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
The Pioneers trailed 3-0 in game two entering the bottom of the fourth inning but cut the score to 3-2 on an rbi double by sophomore
Katie Snoddy and a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Emily Kahoun.
Freshman
Hannah Ramirez (0-1), making her first appearance on the rubber for Malone, held Ohio Dominican in check through four innings before the Panthers scored three in the fifth and seven in the sixth to preserve the victory. Freshman
Erin Perko drove in Malone's final run of the game in the sixth inning with a single to left field.
Kahoun led the Pioneers at the dish going 2-for-2 in addition to her sac fly.
The Pioneers will wrap-up their season with a doubleheader on Sunday against Lake Superior State University at 1:00 pm.
