Malone Cross Country Readies for NCAA Midwest Regional

NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships Webpage

The Malone University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday, November 22th, in hopes of earning an automatic qualifier into the NCAA National Championships.

In order to qualify for the NCAA National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, on December 6th, Malone's teams will need to place in the top four at this weekend's regional meet. Conference opponent, Grand Valley State University (MI) enters the weekend as the favorites to win after the Lakers won both the men's and women's titles at the GLIAC Championships.  The GVSU women's team is ranked first in the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Division II National Poll while the men's team is ranked second.

The Pioneer men's cross country team is ranked 12th in the national polls and third in the Midwest Region, while the women's team is listed among those receiving votes in the national poll and is ranked eighth in the Midwest Region. In all, 12 Midwest Region teams are nationally ranked, the most of any region in the country.

If Malone's teams are unable to lock up a top-four finish, they can still qualify runners on an individual level. The top three individual finishers that are not on a nationally-qualifying team will punch a ticket to Louisville to compete in the NCAA National Championships on an individual level.
