Volleyball Closes Out Season With Loss At Findlay In First Round Of GLIAC Playoffs

Senior outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck posted a team-best 11 kills in her final contest at Malone as the Pioneers fell short in an 18-25, 14-25, 23-25 loss at Findlay on Wednesday in the first round of the GLIAC playoffs.


The Malone University volleyball team closed out its 2014 season on Wednesday evening with a three-set loss to the University of Findlay in the first round of the GLIAC postseason tournament.
 
In the eight-team event, the #6 seeded Pioneers fell to the #3 seeded Oilers, on their home court, by the score of 18-25, 14-25, 23-25.  With the loss, Malone finished the season with an overall record of 15-15 (11-7 GLIAC) while Findlay improved to 23-6 overall (GLIAC final record of 15-3) and moves on to the GLIAC quarterfinals.
 
In her final contest as a Pioneer, senior outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck paced the Malone offense with a team-best 11 kills and an impressive .476 attack percentage while middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak followed with six kills and another solid attack percentage of .455.  In addition, senior setter Brianna Clegg, also closing out her Malone career, tossed up 18 assists for the Pioneer offense.
 
For the Malone defense, Maczuzak led the team in blocks with three block assists while senior defensive specialist/libero Katie Hasebein tallied a team-best 10 digs on her final night as a Pioneer.  Hasebein and fellow senior Anna Hays, who had four kills in the contest, were among the four Malone seniors who closed out their outstanding careers at the University.  Congratulations seniors !
