The Malone University volleyball team will make the program's first-ever appearance in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) Postseason Tournament on Wednesday with a quarterfinal match at the University of Findlay. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Oilers' Croy Gymnasium.
The Pioneers, seeded sixth among the tournament's eight teams, ended the regular season with a 15-14 overall record and an 11-7 mark in conference play. The Pioneers picked up home victories over Tiffin University and Ohio Dominican University this past weekend to secure their first postseason appearance since becoming full NCAA Division II members in 2013.
Findlay, the tournament's No. 3 seed, wrapped up the regular season at 22-6 overall and 15-3 in GLIAC matches. The Oilers enter Wednesday's contest on an 11-match winning streak.
The Pioneers nearly brought Findlay's lengthy unbeaten streak to an end just over a week ago at Croy Gymnasium as the Oilers pulled out a hard-fought five set victory. In the lone regular-season meeting between the two squads on November 1st, Findlay prevailed by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 24-26, 33-31, and 15-11. Full recap:
