Pioneers Fall to Eagles in GLIAC Action

The Malone University women's soccer team lost its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home contest to Ashland University by a final score of 3-1 on Thursday night.

The Eagles got on the scoreboard first as they scored off a penalty shot in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 advantage. Five minutes later, Ashland's leading scorer Morgan Bittengle would score her 11th goal on the season off a long pass from her teammate.

Malone would not back down as Leah Arnold dished a crisp pass to Brianna Smith to score her seventh goal of the season cutting the deficit in half 2-1. The score remained the same at intermission.

It was a battle of the defenses in the second half as both teams had just six shots. However, the Eagles were able to fly past the Malone defense to score in the 73rd minute to seal the 3-1 victory.

Goalie Kari Naylor had 11 saves on the night.

Malone will wrap up its season on Saturday, November 1st, as they host GLIAC opponent Tiffin University at 3:00 p.m.
