The Malone University women's soccer team lost its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) home contest to Ohio Dominican University by a final score of 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick lead, netting their first score three minutes into the contest. After surrendering the early goal, the Pioneers played tough defense over the remainder of the opening period as the score stayed at 1-0 going into intermission.
ODU came out in the second half to score in the 47
th minute to take an early 2-0 advantage. They went on to score again in the 54
th minute to increase their lead to three.
Malone didn't back down as
Christine Najjar scored a goal for the second consecutive game, beating the ODU keeper on a penalty shot in the 62
nd minute to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Panthers would end up scoring in the 78
th minute to make it 4-1.
With five minutes left in regulation, sophomore
Brianna Smith drilled a shot into the lower left corner of the net to make it 4-2. Smith now has six goals on the season. Â
Malone finished with 22 shots, while ODU held the advantage with 26.
Malone will head to Western New York to take on Robert Wesleyan College in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, October 25
th at 3:00 p.m.
