This college soccer thing is coming easy for freshman forward
Christine Najjar. Two days after scoring a goal and adding an assist in her collegiate debut, Najjar bagged a pair of goals to propel the Malone University women's soccer team (2-0) to a 2-1 road victory over Ohio Valley (WV) University (1-1) Monday afternoon
Najjar opened the scoring just four minutes into the contest, capitalizing on an opportunity created by freshman
Brianna Smith. Malone would cling to the one-goal lead until Ohio Valley's Amanda Simpson knotted the score in the 80th minute. It appeared the game was heading into extra time before Najjar found space and scored the winner in the 85th minute to seal the victory. Sophomore
Leah Arnold was credited with the assist.
Malone outshot the Fighting Scots 11-8 for the game and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore
Staci Hackett advance to 2-0 in goal for Malone, making two saves. Ohio Valley's Kourtney Breighner was tested more frequently, coming up with five saves. Malone will try to run its win streak to three games on Thursday, Sept. 12 when it faces off with cross-town foe, Walsh University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Walsh's Milazzo Soccer Field.
