Men's Soccer Falls In Season Opener At Cedarville 4-0

Pioneer goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro posted six saves on the night vs. Cedarville but the host Yellow Jacket offense proved to be too much in the contest as they scored four goals against the Pioneers.

The Malone University men's soccer team opened its 2013 season with a 4-0 loss at Cedarville University on Saturday evening.  While the non-conference loss put the Pioneers at 0-1 on the campaign, the Yellow Jackets improved to 1-0-1 on the young season.

The hosts scored their first goal with just 11 minutes gone in the contest to take the early 1-0 lead but Malone kept it that way to the intermission.  In the second half, Cedarville got a quick goal just three minutes in to take a 2-0 lead and went on to score two more goals, at the 57-minute mark and at the 76-minute mark, to post the solid 4-0 win over Malone.

On the night, Cedarville posted 25 shots while the Pioneers were able to tally only six shots.  In addition, the host Yellow Jackets held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

For the contest, Kelvin Aquino and Josh Abend paced Malone with two shots apiece.  Pioneer goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro posted six saves.

Malone will next compete in another non-conference contest -- at Ohio Valley University (WV) on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
