Another NCAA Division II nationally-ranked GLIAC opponent visited Osborne Hall on Saturday afternoon and the Malone University volleyball team again came up short in its bid to pull off an upset as the Pioneers fell to #24 Ferris State University (MI) by the score of 25-17, 26-24, 25-10.
With the loss, Malone dropped to 7-5 overall and to 2-2 in the GLIAC while the Bulldogs, with their victory, improved to 9-3 overall and to 4-0 in conference play.
Kills and digs were fairly even between the teams although Ferris State held the edge in both categories - in kills 40-33 and in digs 67-62. Â The Bulldogs also tallied three solo blocks and 12 block assists while the Pioneers had one solo block and six block assists. In addition, FSU held a 5-2 advantage in service aces.
For Malone, middle hitter
Lauren Townley blasted a team-high 11 kills in the contest and also posted four digs and two block assists. Outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck drilled seven kills and added nine digs, one solo block and one block assist. Outside hitters
