Box Score
A second-half goal barrage from the Saginaw Valley State University (MI) Cardinals (3-1-1, 2-0 GLIAC) sank the Malone University men's soccer team (1-4, 0-3 GLIAC) by a count of 6-0 on Friday.
The first and second half were completely different stories for the Pioneers. Malone hung tough with Saginaw Valley, who was ranked #2 in the NCAA Division II polls to start the season but have since fallen out of the rankings, in the game's first 45 minutes. The only thing that separated the teams into the break was a Zach Vasold goal in the eighth minute. However, the Cardinals would score five goals over a span of 21 minutes in the second half to earn the victory.
Senior goalkeeper
Felipe Monteiro made nine saves for Malone while Saginaw's keeper made two. The Cardinals held a 28-15 advantage in shots but the Pioneers held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Junior
Caleb Jones and senior
Kelvin Aquino led Malone with three shots each.
Malone will try to end its three game skid on Sunday, September 22nd, when they play at Northwood University (MI) at 2:30 p.m. Live statistics will be available during the contest at
