Men's Soccer Falls In Close 1-0 Decision At Walsh

Pioneer goalie Felipe Monteiro posted eight saves against Walsh but the Malone defense did allow the one goal that was all the Cavaliers needed in their 1-0 win over the Pioneers Tuesday night.

The Malone University men's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 contest at Walsh University on Tuesday evening in the squad's second GLIAC contest of the young season.  With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 1-3 overall on the season and to 0-2 in the GLIAC while the Cavaliers improved to 2-2 overal and to 2-0 in GLIAC play.

With just under seven minutes remaining in the first half, Walsh scored the only goal that it needed in the contest off a corner kick as Walsh's Chad Dickerhoof scored the gamewinner for the Cavaliers.

Malone posted nine shots in the contest but Walsh tallied 19 shots of their own.  The Cavaliers also held an 8-4 shots on goal advantage and won the corner kick battle by an 8-2 margin. Pioneer goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro racked up eight saves in the contest while the Walsh goalie posted four on the night.

Malone will next compete at GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley University (MI) on Friday in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
