The Malone University volleyball team tallied a 1-1 record on Saturday, splitting matches with Indiana (PA) University and the University of Southern Indiana on the final day of the University of Findlay's TownePlace Suites Classic. The Pioneers opened play with a 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 triumph over IUP before falling to USI in the finale 24-26, 16-25, 11-25.
In Saturday's opener, outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck led the way for the Malone attack with 10 kills and seven digs. Outside hitter
Sarah Brent followed with eight kills while outside hitter
Anna Hays added seven kills. Middle hitter
Lauren Townley registered six kills with fellow middle hitter
Elizabeth Maczuzak posting four kills and four service aces. Setter
Kimberly McCracken also made significant contributions with 32 assists and 10 digs.
Against Southern Indiana in the second contest of the day, Hays paced the Pioneer effort with 10 kills. Townley recorded seven kills and two block assists. Slauterbeck added five kills and eight digs while McCracken ended the match with 23 assists.
Malone, now 4-3 overall, will be back in action Tuesday as the squad hosts its home opener against Cedarville University at 7:00 p.m. Live stats will be available during the contest at
