The Malone University softball team (6-14) dropped two games at Notre Dame College (9-11) Wednesday afternoon by scores of 6-0 and 10-1.
Senior
Shelby Snyder (3-7) was credited with the loss in game one despite pitching all six innings. She gave up six runs, all earned, on nine hits while striking out five.
The Pioneer offense recorded four hits in the game. Their best scoring chance came in the top of the sixth when freshman
Alexa Holztrager connected for a two-out single to put runners on the corners. However, freshman
Marionna Cane was retired on a groundout to shortstop to end the threat.
Freshman
Heather Papp had the only extra-base hit for Malone, a double in the fifth inning. Freshmen
Lisa Cordova,
Carly Holcomb and
Amy Donze had the other hits.
Malone was put behind the eight-ball early in game two, falling behind 10-0 after the first two innings. Donze fell to 1-7 in the circle, conceding 10 runs in four innings. However, only three of the 10 runs were earned as she was plagued by four Malone errors.
Cordova led Malone at the dish going 2-for-3 with a double. She scored the only Malone run of the day in the third inning when she was plated by a Holztrager single. The remaining Malone hits came via a double from Papp, her second of the day, and a single from Donze.
Malone will return to the diamond Thursday as the squad hosts Walsh University in a 3:00 p.m. Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader. Live statistics will be available during the game at
