The Malone University softball team was shutout in the opening game of a doubleheader vs. Hillsdale College on Wednesday 8-0 before having game two suspended thanks to some nasty thunder and lightning storms.

Hillsdale pitcher Katie Ardrey limited the Pioneers to just one hit in five innings in game one while Taylor Schulty connected on a three-run homer.

Frshman Amy Donze provided the lone hit for the Pioneers in the game. Senior Shelby Snyder dropped to 4-10 on the season after giving up eight runs (all earned) on 12 hits over four innings.

Game two was a tight affair before lightning and thunder reared their ugly heads. Hillsdale was leading Malone 2-0 through four innings when play was suspended. The resumption of the game will be determined at a later time.

Malone will get right back to work tomorrow when they travel to Findlay for a doubleheader versus the Findlay Oilers.
