The Malone University softball team (6-8, 0-4 GLIAC) dropped a pair of games against Ferris State (MI) Univesity (9-7, 2-2 GLIAC) on Sunday in frigid conditions at Pioneer Field.
The Bulldogs took game one in convincing fashion 18-4 behind a 12-run second inning. Senior
Shelby Snyder (3-4) was hit hard in the loss, giving up 13 runs in 1 2/3 innings of work. but only two of the 13 runs were earned. Sophomore
Stephanie Byrne came on in relief and gave up five runs, three earned, in 3 1/3 innings.
Freshman
Amy Donze had an RBI single in the first inning to tie the game at one and freshman
Carly Holcomb drove in two with a single in the third.
Reminiscent of game two versus Grand Valley State (MI) University on Saturday, the Pioneers started game two on Sunday by falling behind early before storming back with a ferocious rally. Ferris State led 7-1 through four innings before the Malone bats came alive. Junior
Katy Carr scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to pull within 7-2. Malone would tack on four runs in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 7-6. Freshman
Marionna Cane singled in a run with a seeing-eye single in the inning before freshman
Karissa Melgoza plated two more with a scorcher down the left field line.
The Bulldogs responded in the bottom half of the inning with four runs of their own to push the lead back to five runs at 11-6. Malone would put a couple of base runners on in the seventh but couldn't bring them home.

Lisa Cordova all had two hits for Malone. Donze (1-4) was credited with the loss in the circle after surrendering 11 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and six walks.
Malone is scheduled to take the diamond next on Tuesday, Mar. 26th in a home doubleheader against the University of Charleston (WV). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
