Volleyball Sweeps Rival Walsh In Three Sets

Settter Kimberly McCracken posted 22 assists and a team-high 10 digs in the Pioneers' three-set victory Tuesday night.

The Malone University volleyball team tallied a three-set victory at Osborne Hall Tuesday night in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match with rival Walsh University.  In front of a crowd of 360 fans, many of which were clad in red as part of the "Red Sea" student section, the Pioneers swept the Cavaliers by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 27-25.

With the victory, Malone avenged an October 1st loss at Walsh and improved its record to 11-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play.  Walsh, meanwhile, slipped to 5-19 overall and 2-12 in the GLIAC following the defeat.

The Pioneers posted nine service aces in the match to go with 37 kills and a .156 attack percentage.  Walsh tallied seven total blocks (five solo) and 44 digs but was unable to get its offense on track, posting only 32 kills and a .067 hitting percentage.

Outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck paced the Pioneer attack with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks (one solo).Outside hitter Anna Hays added seven kills and two aces.  Middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak also posted seven kills while middle hitter Lauren Townley contributed six kills.  Setter Kimberly McCracken dished out 22 assists and scooped up 10 digs.  Fellow setter Brianna Clegg also made significant contributions with 10 assists, five aces and five digs.

Malone will be back in action at Osborne Hall on Friday evening with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Wayne State (MI) University (9-16 overall, 6-8 GLIAC).  Live video and statistics will be provided free of charge during the match.  Click here for links to each.
