The Malone University volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest at GLIAC South frontrunner Ashland University on Saturday afternoon as the Pioneers were unable to get any momentum going against the powerful Eagle squad. Â Malone suffered a 25-11, 25-12, 25-15 straight-set loss and fell to 10-14 overall and to 5-8 in the GLIAC while Ashland improved to 18-6 overall and 10-3 in GLIAC play.
Host Ashland held a solid 40-21 advantage in kills and also a 43-30 edge in digs. The Eagles' defense also mustered a strong 18-6 advantage in solo blocks/block assists.
Middle hitter
Lauren Townley paced Malone on offense with a team-best five kills while outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck and middle hitter
Haley Kool drilled four kills each on the day. Slauterbeck also contributed three digs and two block assists. Libero
Katie Hasebein led the Pioneers' in digs with six. In addition, setters
Brianna Clegg and
Kimberly McCracken registered nine and seven assists, respectively.
Malone will look to get back on the winning track next Tuesday (Nov. 5th) when the squad hosts local and GLIAC rival Walsh University (4-18, 1-11 GLIAC prior to tonight's match vs. Lake Erie) in a 7:00 p.m. match. Â
