Volleyball Falls To Ohio Dominican In Four Sets In Final Match Of Season

Outside hitter Anna Hays belted a team-best 13 kills for Malone as the Pioneers dropped their season finale at Ohio Dominican in four sets.

The Malone University volleyball team closed out its 2013 campaign on Saturday afternoon at Ohio Dominican University as the Pioneers lost to the Panthers in four sets 25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 23-25.  With the conclusion of the regular season, the Pioneers finished at 14-18 overall and 7-11 in GLIAC play, just two games out of the eighth and final spot for the GLIAC postseason tournament. Ohio Dominican finished the year at 14-16 and 8-10 in the GLIAC, just one game from the final playoff spot.

Ohio Dominican held a slight 56-49 advantage in kills over Malone and also held the edge in assists at 54-47. A strong output by the Pioneers' defensive front wall produced 17 blocks/block assists on the day while ODU had 10.  The dig category was very even as the Panthers recorded 84 to Malone's 78.  In addition, ODU held a slim six to four edge in service aces.

For Malone, three athletes drilled 10+ kills on the afternoon as outside hitter Anna Hays led the way with 13 kills while also tallying four digs and two block assists. Middle hitter Lauren Townley blasted 12 kills and also contributed one solo block and two block assists while outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck nailed 11 kills while also pocketing 13 digs, a solo block and two block assists. Setter Kimberly McCracken tossed up a team-best 28 assists, and also served up two aces, with Brianna Clegg adding 12 more assists for the squad.  In addition, libero Katie Hasebein recorded 17 digs and one service ace for the match.

Seniors Townley, McCracken and Allison Kirby, who tallied four assists, seven digs and a block assist in the match, competed in their final match for the Pioneer program.
