Three-Goal Outburst In Second Half Lifts Malone Over Lake Erie

Box Score

For the second time this season, the Malone University men's soccer team (4-10-1, 3-9-1 GLIAC) used a strong second-half performance to down the Lake Erie College Storm (7-7-2, 6-7-1 GLIAC), this time on the road by a score of 3-2.

The Pioneers trailed 1-0 at the break courtesy of a goal from Lake Erie's Stuart Campbell.  However, Malone used a stretch of three unanswered goals in the second half to seize control of the match.

Senior Rubem Miranda was the first to get the Pioneers on the board, receiving a pass from sophomore Christian Schmikla and beating the keeper from 10 yards out in the 67th minute. Junior Ryan Brumbaugh scored his first goal of the season seven minutes later to give Malone its first lead of the game, converting a pass from senior Felipe Delgado. Senior Josh Abend gave the Pioneers a much needed insurance goal in the 87th minute, burying a penalty kick. The Storm would add a meaningless goal with just five seconds remaining to make the final score 3-2.

Lake Erie outshot Malone 22-14 for the match and 11-6 in shots on goal. The home-side also held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. Brumbaugh led Malone with four shots. Senior goalkeeper Felipe Monteiro earned the win in net for Malone with eight saves.

The Pioneers will conclude their season at home on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:30 pm with a Senior Day tilt against the University of Findlay.  Live statistics will be provided during the match at http://www.sidearmstats.com/malone/msoc/
