Box Score
The Malone University women's soccer team (4-8-1, 1-7 GLIAC) fell at home to cross-town rival Walsh University (4-8-2, 1-7 GLIAC) by a score of 3-0 on a sloppy pitch on Saturday afternoon.
An own goal from Malone in the 19th minute was the only thing that separated the two teams at halftime. However, Walsh put the Pioneers in an insurmountable hole in the opening minute of the second half when Emily Durina scored a deflating goal. Malone would ratchet up the pressure in the game's final 30 minutes. Sophomore
Leah Arnold nearly pulled Malone within a goal when she beat the Walsh goalie to a loose ball but her shot was cleared off the line by a Cavalier defender. Moments later, Walsh's Rachel Rucker scored the game-clinching goal in the final minute to shut the door on Malone's comeback bid.
Walsh outshot Malone 17-12 but Malone put more shots on target by a count of 9-8. Freshman
Christine Najjar was dynamic in the attack for Malone, taking six shots, all which found their way on frame, while sophomore
Staci Hackett made four saves.
Malone's next game is next Friday, October 25th, at the University of Findlay at 1:00 p.m.
