Women's Soccer Sophomore Amanda Najjar was reletless all evening in the Malone defense

Ashland's Late Goal Hands Malone a 1-0 Defeat

Box Score

The Malone University women's soccer team (3-6-1, 1-5 GLIAC) battled toe-to-toe with the Ashland University Eagles (5-3-2, 4-2-1 GLIAC) for 90 minutes Friday afternoon but a 76th-minute goal from Ashland's Krista Lewis gave the road side the victory.

The short-handed Pioneers played much of the game without freshmen midfield maestros Corrin Hayberg and Brianna Smith, who both exited with injuries. Sophomore Amanda Najjar and freshman Simone Keibler were outstanding in defense for Malone, keeping the Eagles' potent attack at bay for most of the match. Unfortunately, in large part to injuries, Malone could only muster six shots and finally wielded under Ashland's pressure late.

Sophomore goalkeeper Staci Hackett was impressive in goal, making seven saves for the Pioneers. Ashland out-shot Malone 20-6 and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.

Malone is back at it on Pioneer Field this Sunday at 3:30 pm versus Ohio Dominican University.  Live statistics will be available during the contest at http://www.sidearmstats.com/malone/wsoc/
