The Malone University volleyball team opened its weekend trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Friday evening with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 loss to Northern Michigan University.
The host Wildcats (13-5 overall, 7-1 GLIAC) tallied 49 kills and a .288 attack percentage during the contest, topping the Pioneers' (7-9 overall, 2-6 GLIAC) totals of 33 kills and a .163 attack percentage.  The two squads both tallied 44 digs, but Northern Michigan held the edge at the net, registering eight team blocks (two solo, 12 assists) to Malone's three (two solo, two assists).
Outside hitter 
Anna Hays led the way for the Pioneers with eight kills and two service aces.  Fellow outside hitter 
Taylor Slauterbeck notched seven kills and a team-high 13 digs.  Right-side hitter 
Sarah Stone and middle hitters 
Lauren Townley and 
Elizabeth Maczuzak each added five kills apiece.  Setter 
Kimberly McCracken also made solid contributions with 20 assists and six digs.
Malone will look to bounce back on Saturday when the squad travels to Houghton, Michigan for a 4:00 p.m. match against Michigan Tech University.  The Huskies will provide live video, audio and stats during the contest at
