The Malone University men's basketball team suffered a tough 90-51 loss in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Ferris State (MI) University on Thursday night. The Pioneers trailed by just three at 23-20 with a little over nine minutes to play in the first half before the Bulldogs took control, outscoring Malone 26-10 over the remainder of the period to take a commanding 49-30 advantage into the locker room at intermission.
The Pioneers were then unable to cut into the deficit over the final 20 minutes as Ferris State pulled away down the stretch. Malone slipped to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play following the loss while the Bulldogs snapped a three-game slide, improving to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in the GLIAC.
After having some success early, Malone's shooting went cold for much of the evening as the Pioneers ended the night having made just 10 of 19 (52.6%) free throws and 19 of 56 (33.9%) shots from the field, including only three of 22 (13.6%) attempts from beyond the arc. Ferris State, meanwhile, connected on 21 of 27 (77.8%) foul shots, 32 of 64 (50%) field goals and five of 11 (45.5%) three-pointers.
The Bulldogs also enjoyed a 44-29 advantage on the boards and capitalized on Malone's miscues, scoring a total of 25 points off 16 Pioneer turnovers.

Brian Stone played well off the bench, pacing Malone with 10 points and four rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. Forwards
Daniel Wise and
Cory Veldhuizen each added seven points while guard
Isiah Elliott finished with five points six assists and two steals.
Jared Stolicker recorded a double-double for Ferris State with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kenny Brown also recorded 17 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
