The Malone University men's basketball team rode its win streak to three games by clipping the Ohio Dominican University Panthers 79-75 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (9-6 overall, 7-5 GLIAC) trailed by as many as seven points in the second half but managed to battle back behind the hot shooting of junior
Isiah Elliott. Elliott's three-ball with 5:01 to play knotted the score at 67 apiece. Malone would go ahead for good when senior
Zach Bates converted a layup with 2:29 on the clock to give the Pioneers a 72-70 lead. Ohio Dominican (3-14 overall, 0-12 GLIAC) got one last chance trailing 77-75 but turned the ball over with six seconds to play. Elliott would step up to the free-throw line and drain two clutch free throws to ice the game in its waning moments.
Elliott finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Freshman
Christian Graves connected on four of five three-pointers to finish with 12 points, Bates ended with 11 points and seven rebounds and junior
Cory Veldhuizen fell a rebound shy of a double-double finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Morgan Jones led Ohio Dominican with 16 points.
Malone shot 43.5% from the field and 44.5% from downtown, while Ohio Dominican finished 45.5% from the floor and 41.2% from beyond the arc.
