The Malone University volleyball team made it five wins in a row on Friday with a hard-fought, five-set victory at Ohio Dominican University. The Pioneers, playing in their second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest in as many nights, took the first two sets of the evening by scores of 26-24 and 25-19. The host Panthers claimed the third frame 25-21 and then fought back from an early 12-6 deficit to take set four by an identical 25-21 margin. After falling behind at the start of the fifth set, ODU stormed back to within 10-9, but Malone managed to regain momentum, rattling off five straight points to put the contest away.
Malone (5-2 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) had three players reach double digits in kills, led by middle hitter
Lauren Townley, who ended the evening with 14 kills and four blocks (two solo). Middle hitter
Hannah Haver added 13 kills, four of which were registered at the end of the decisive fifth set. Haver also posted four blocks (one solo). Middle hitter
Diana Wallace matched Haver's numbers, totaling 13 kills and four blocks of her own. Outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck notched nine kills and four aces followed by outside hitter
Anna Hays with eight kills. Setter
Jackie Schwamberger dished out 49 assists and 10 digs. Defensive specialists
Allison Kirby and
Katie Hasebein each scooped up 12 digs while outside hitter
Elizabeth Maczuzak contributed four service aces.
ODU (4-4 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) was paced by Lauren Kraemer's 13 kills. Kelsey Fortney recorded 17 digs while Caitlin Kusan made six blocks (one solo).
