Results
The Malone University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the non-scoring Kent State University Tune Up in Kent, Ohio Saturday as numerous outstanding Pioneer performances were turned in.
In the women's meet, Malone posted a 1-2 finish in the 1000 meters as
Katie King won the event in a time of 3:03.24 while
Stacy Cameron finished in the runner-up spot in 3:09.48.
Madison Schuler represented Malone in the 3000 meters and posted a time of 10:59.07.
In the 5000 meters,
Tynae Wilson finished 10th overall, among 50 runners in the event, in a time of 18:42.81 while
Hannah Hartzler was close behind in 15th in 18:53.01. In addition,
Sara Polatas placed 17th in 19:02.80.
In the one-mile run, all three of Malone's runners finished in the top 15 among the 43 contestants in the race as
Tina Oprean led the way with a seventh-place effort in a time of 5:16.12.
Erin Bauer placed 12th in 5:19.75 while
Mattison Rankin clocked a 5:21.00 for 13th place.
Courtney Armsey raced to a time of 9:21, among 42 contestants, in the 60-meter hurdle prelims to qualify for the finals (as the ninth fastest time among 16 qualifiers). In the finals, Armsey posted a time of 10.68 but did not finish in the top 10.
In the 200-meter dash,
Tayler Carpenter paced Malone with a time of 27.86 while
Ashley Spurlock was close behind in 28.61. In addition,
Melissa Wohlheter clocked a time of 29.26.
Emily Fisher led four Malone athletes in the 400 meters as she crossed the finish line in a time of 1:02.82 followed closely by
Rachel Pae in 1:03.09. In addition, Spurlock pocketed a time of 1:04.73 and Wohlheter posted a 1:06.34.
In field events, Carpenter paced Malone in the long jump with a leap of 14' 8.50”. In the unseeded pole vault event,
Laura Page paced Malone with a leap of 9' 7.75” for a fourth-place finish (tied) among 17 vaulters.
Allyssa Hostetler also competed for the Pioneers and recorded a leap of 8' 2” for 11th place.
In the men's meet,
Lepear Smith blazed to the second fastest time, among 52 total runners, in the 60-meter hurdle prelims, in a time of 8:33 seconds. Then in the finals, Smith scorched a time of 8.24 to capture a runner-up finish among the 16 finalists.
In the 60-meter dash prelims,
Malik Felton paced four Malone runners in the event by notching a time of 7.04 seconds for the fifth fastest time among 71 contestants and a spot in the finals of the event. Smith also qualified for the finals by posting a prelim time of 7.10 (11th fastest time).
Jason Keniston and
Luke Ford also competed in the prelims (but did not qualify for the finals) with times of 7.29 and 7.64, respectively. In the finals, Smith rocketed to a second-place finish with a time of 7.00 while Felton finished eighth in 7.04.
In the 200-meter dash, Felton led the Pioneer charge by finishing sixth, among 62 total runners, in a time of 22.41 seconds while Smith placed 22nd in 23.13. In addition,
Tony Davis and Ford posted times of 24.46 and 24.98, respectively.
Philip Palmer paced the Malone men in the 400-meter dash by finishing 16th, among 57 runners, in a time of 50.95.
Eric Barto clocked a 53.74 while
Jared Zollars recorded a time of 55.31.
Doug French represented Malone in the 800 meters and posted a time of 2:03.54.
In the men's 4x400 relay, the unit of Palmer, Barto, Zollars and French posted a time of 3:32.49.
Billy Latta represented Malone in the 1000 meters and pocketed a time of 2:38.38 to finish seventh among 11 runners in the field.
In the 3000 meters,
Nick Meeson led Malone with an 11th-place finish among 45 entrants in a time of 8:46.48 while
Matt McConnell was close behind in 13th in a time of 8:48.22.
In the one-mile run,
Matt Hendrix led a three-man Pioneer contingent with a time of 4:33.50 while
Garret Gleckler recorded a 4:51.25 and
Lucas Shroades followed with a 4:56.44.
In field events,
Anthony Lombardi paced the Pioneers in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6' 6” for a 10th-place finish among 36 athletes.
Matt Lautanen posted a leap of 6'2” to tie for 17th place.
Mtume Msikizi-Jackson represented Malone in the triple jump and posted a mark of 41' 4.25".
The Malone teams will next compete at the University of Mt. Union's Last Chance meet on Saturday, March 3rd.
