Pioneers Pick Up Road Win At Wayne State

Middle hitter Lauren Townley matched a season-high with 15 kills in Firday's victory.

The Malone University volleyball team posted a four-set road victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Wayne State (MI) University on Friday night.  After the Pioneers edged the Warriors 27-25 in the first set, Wayne State fought back to even up the match with a 25-20 triumph in set two.  Malone pulled ahead with a 25-13 win in the third frame and then sealed the victory by taking set four by a 25-22 count.

The Pioneers (15-9 overall, 8-6 GLIAC) racked up 20 blocks and a .312 hitting percentage en route to the conference win.  The Warriors (15-11, 9-6 GLIAC) notched six service aces but were unable to keep pace with the strong Pioneer attack, compiling a hitting percentage of .185.

Middle hitter Lauren Townley led the way for Malone, matching a season-high with 15 kills.  Townley also notched three service aces and seven blocks (one solo).  Outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck also totaled 15 kills.  Right-side hitter Diana Wallace registered seven kills with six blocks (one solo).  Outside hitter Anna Hays added seven kills while setter Jackie Schwamberger contributed 41 assists, a team-high nine digs and three kills.

Kristen Bulkiewicz paced Wayne State with 16 kills.  Lindsey Graciak added 15 digs and four aces.

The Pioneers, winners of eight of their last 10 matches, will be back in action on Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. contest at the University of Findlay (11-15 overall, 8-7 GLIAC).  The Oilers will provide live statistics and streaming video during the contest at http://livestats.prestosports.com/findlay.
