Malone Falls In Five Sets To Ohio Dominican

A 13-4 run in the match's fifth and deciding set boosted the Ohio Dominican University women's volleyball team (13-16, 7-11 GLIAC) over Malone University on a day the Pioneers honored Jackie Schwamberger, Diana Wallace and Hannah Haver on Senior Day.(18-10, 11-7 GLIAC).

Malone looked well on their way to victory in the early going, taking the game's opening set 25-15.

The Panthers would turn the tables on Malone in the match's middle portion, winning the second and third sets 25-16 and 25-17, respectively.

The Pioneers would regain the match's momentum in the fourth set, evening up the match with a 25-14 win.

The momentum would carry over early into the fifth set with Malone racing to 5-2 lead. However, Ohio Dominican would go on a pivotal 13-4 run to end the set and earn the the victory 15-25, 25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 15-9.

Middle hitter Lauren Townley led Malone's attack with 13 kills followed by Haver with 10. Kimberly McCracken and Brianna Clegg filled in at setter in place of the injured Schwamberger. McCracken led the Pioneers with 23 assist while Clegg dished out 15. Outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck led Malone with 17 digs.

Despite the loss, Malone still managed to finish in the top eight in the GLIAC standings. Unfortunately, the Pioneers cannot take part in the conference tournament because the winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, which the Pioneers are ineligible for as they transition to NCAA Division II. Malone will compete in the NCCAA postseason, however, hosting the six-team NCCAA East Region Tournament Nov. 16-17. On Nov. 16th, the Pioneers will play Houghton College (NY) at 3:00 pm and Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) at 7:00 pm.
