In a home contest in Malone University's Osborne Hall on Saturday afternoon, the Pioneer volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to an outstanding Ashland University team by the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-23. With the loss, Malone fell to 14-9 overall and to 7-6 in GLIAC play while Ashland improved to 18-6 and 8-5 in the GLIAC.
Middle hitters
Hannah Haver and
Lauren Townley each blasted a team-high eight kills. Townley also tallied two solo blocks, a block assist and a pair of digs while Haver posted two aces and a dig.
Setter
Jackie Schwamberger offered up 31 assists on the day to go along with three kills, an ace and a team-best eight digs. Outside hitter
Elizabeth Maczuzak pocketed six kills, one dig and one block assist while outside hitter
Taylor Slauterbeck collected six kills and six digs for the Pioneer cause.
Ashland was paced by Brittany Snider who racked up an impressive 14 kills for the Eagles while setter Crystal Elliott tossed up 34 assists.
Malone will next compete at GLIAC opponent Wayne State University (MI) (15-9, 9-4 GLIAC) on Friday in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
