Women’s Soccer Clipped by Tiffin 1-0

Box Score

The Malone University women's soccer (1-12-1, 0-10-1 GLIAC) team put in an inspired effort on senior day but fell just short to Tiffin University 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

10 Malone seniors played their final home game for the Pioneers in a hard fought, nerve wracking contest. Tiffin's Lesley Dotson's 40th minute goal proved to be the difference in the contest. The left-footer unleashed a shot from 25 yards out that went off the inside of the post and into the goal.

The Pioneers were a few close calls away from tying the match. With a minute remaining in the first half senior Sarah Heckman streaked down the left side and unleashed a shot that was tipped just wide of the net. Amanda Hanlon also had a good chance but she poked a loose ball over top of the net.

Tiffin (6-7-2, 4-5-2 GLIAC) held a decisive edge in shots at 31-12 but shots on goal were only 11-7 in favor of the Dragons. Heckman and Hanlon led Malone with three shots apiece. All three of Heckman's efforts found the frame. Senior Angie Nutial made 10 saves in the loss. The Pioneers will wrap up their season with a trip to Michigan next weekend. The trip begins with a 5:00 pm matchup with Michigan Tech on Friday October, 26.
