Junior
Kelvin Aquino, who led Malone in goals in 2010 and 2011, ended a personal eight-game goalless drought at the perfect time, scoring a game-winning goal in the 82nd minute, his second of the season, to propel Malone (6-6-1, 6-4-1 GLIAC) to a 1-0 victory at Walsh University Sunday afternoon.
With the game knotted at 0-0 and eight minutes to play, Aquino ran onto an
Adam Sharpnack through ball and went in on goal with only the goalie to beat. Instead of firing a shot, the forward showed enough poise to fake a shot, round the keeper and slot the ball into a vacant net, cementing the win and avenging a 3-0 loss suffered early in the year to Walsh.
Malone outshot Walsh 15-12 for the game, receiving four shots a piece from juniors
Rubem Miranda and
Felipe Delgado.
Felipe Monteiro made seven saves to pick up his sixth shutout of the season while counterpart Frank Sanabria made eight for the Cavs (3-11, 3-9 GLIAC) in defeat. Malone will face a stiff test in its next match when it travels to Ohio Dominican University on Friday, Oct. 26th to take on the Panthers at 7:00 pm.
