Turnovers Plague Pioneers In 81-67 Road Loss To Notre Dame College

Freshman guard Selana Reale tallied five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a season-high 17 points in Saturday's road loss.

The Malone University women's basketball team suffered an 81-67 defeat on Saturday afternoon in its road contest against Notre Dame College.  The Pioneers trailed 43-27 at halftime after committing 19 turnovers over the first 20 minutes of action.  Malone was then unable to recover from the sizable deficit as the Falcons maintained a double-digit lead throughout the final stanza en route to the 14-point triumph.  Notre Dame improved to 8-10 overall with the victory while the Pioneers slipped to 9-11.

Malone jumped out to a 10-4 advantage in the early going of Saturday's match-up.  The Falcons rallied to knot the game at 13-13 and then went on a 22-5 scoring run to open up a 37-20 lead with three and half minutes remaining in the first half.  After trailing by as many as 26 points midway through the second period, the Pioneers managed to pull within 12 at 79-67 with a little over a minute to play.  However, the visitors were unable to get any closer over the final 60 seconds.

With the help of a tough full-court press, NDC registered 16 steals, racking up a total of 31 points off 26 Malone turnovers.  The Falcons also enjoyed a 19-3 edge in second-chance points after grabbing 22 offensive rebounds.  Overall, Notre Dame held a 40-31 edge on the boards.

The Falcons connected on 33 of 82 (40.2%) field goals, seven of 27 (25.9%) three-pointers and all eight of their free throws on the afternoon.  Malone countered by making 23 of its 42 (54.8%) shots from the floor, five of its nine (55.6%) treys, and 16 of its 23 (69.6%) free throws.

Forward Lindsy Snyder led the way for the Pioneers with a game-high 22 points.  The freshman sank seven of 12 field-goal attempts and eight of 10 free throws to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks.  Guard Selana Reale posted a season-high 17 points while grabbing five rebounds, handing out three assists and snagging two steals.  Guard Sydnee Penn contributed seven points and forward Sarah Bardall added five points, seven boards and five assists.

Guards Danielle Ledrich and Martha Nagbe each tossed in 14 points to pace the Falcons.  In addition to her point total, Nagbe also recorded team-highs for rebounds (7), steals (7) and assists (5).  Guard Alex Dackin added 13 points.
