Walsh Rallies To Top Malone In Five Sets

Malone jumped out to a two sets to one advantage before the Cavaliers fought back for the win

The Malone University volleyball team endured a hard-fought loss on the road to local rival Walsh University on Thursday night.  After the host Cavaliers took the opening set of the evening 25-18, the Pioneers pulled ahead by taking sets two and three by identical scores of 25-23.  Walsh evened the contest with a 25-21 triumph in set four and then secured the victory by taking the fifth and final set by a margin of 15-11.  Malone's record fell to 11-7 with the narrow defeat while the Cavaliers remained undeafed, improving to 13-0 on the year.

Middle hitter Diana Wallace and outside hitter Megan Fisher each registered 12 kills to pace the Malone attack.  Wallace also contributed four assists and two block assists while Fisher added seven digs.  Middle hitter Lauren Townley posted 10 kills.  Outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck notched seven kills and five digs.  Setter Jackie Schwamberger recorded 38 assists, four kills, 15 digs and two blocks (one solo).  Defensive specialist Katie Hasebein scooped up 12 digs.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Mt. Vernon Nazarene University (9-11 overall) in a 7:00 p.m. match.  Fans that cannot be in attendance at Osborne Hall can follow the action live on-line with a free video stream.
