Pioneers Conclude Play At Point Loma Nazarene Invitational By Tallying 1-1 Record Against Pair Of NAIA Top 25 Opponents

The Malone University volleyball team wrapped up its weekend trip to Point Loma Nazarene University's Seaside Invitational in San Diego, California on Saturday by splitting a pair of matches with Concordia University and Biola University. The Pioneers began the day with a four-set loss to NAIA No. 9 Concordia (CA), falling 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25. Malone concluded the day on a high note, though, bouncing back to defeat NAIA No. 12 Biola (CA) 25-15, 25-20, 25-23. After posting a 2-2 record on their trip to the Golden State, the Pioneers return to Ohio with a 4-5 overall record.

In Saturday's opener against Concordia, outside hitter Megan Fisher ripped a team-high 12 kills to go with two service aces and 11 digs. Middle hitter Diana Wallace followed with eight kills and three blocks (two solo). Fellow middle hitters Hannah Haver and Lauren Townley each posted eight kills and three blocks apiece. Setter Jackie Schwamberger handed out 32 assists and scooped up 10 digs. Defensive specialist Katie Hasebein added 12 digs with two service aces while outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck ripped seven kills.

In the finale with Biola, Haver led the way with 11 kills and five digs. Fisher notched 10 kills and seven digs. Townley and Slauterbeck both registered nine kills, four digs and one solo block each. Schwamberger tallied 38 assists while libero Allison Kirby contributed a team-high nine digs.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to the University of Mt. Union (7-2 overall) for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
