Pioneers Lose 86-44 Contest At Home To Notre Dame College Tuesday

Freshman forward Sarah VanVoorhis paced the Pioneers with 10 points in the team's 86-44 loss to Notre Dame (OH) College Saturday evening.

The Malone University women's basketball team lost to Notre Dame (OH) College by the score of 86-44 in Malone's Osborne Hall Tuesday evening. The visiting Falcons opened a 45-25 lead at the half and extended their advantage throughout the second stanza to post the 42-point win. With the American Mideast Conference loss, Malone fell to 8-20 overall on the season and to 4-11 in the AMC while Notre Dame improved to 21-8 and 11-4.

Malone was held to just 25.9% shooting from the field (15 of 58) while Notre Dame sank 53.7% of its attempts from the floor (36 of 67). The Falcons also held a decisive advantage in both assists, at 21 to four, and steals, with a 21-9 edge. From three-point range, Notre Dame was six of 13 for 46.2% while the Pioneers hit only three of 26 attempts for 11.5%. At the free throw line, Malone did score a few more points than their opponents, hitting 11 of 17 attempts (64.7%), while the Falcons netted eight of 11 (72.7%). In addition, Notre Dame held a 44-36 advantage in rebounds on the night.

For Malone, forward Sarah VanVoorhis paced the team in scoring with 10 points, including a perfect four-of-four effort at the line, while also pulling down three rebounds. Guard Ashley Speicher followed with nine points while also adding three rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal. Guard Sara Tucke tossed in six points. Forward Julie Conley grabbed a team-best seven rebounds for the Pioneers while guard Trisha Seilhamer had five boards (and also three steals).

Yvette Hunter paced the Falcons with a game-high 16 points while Kealy McNally and Ashanti McLeod led the team in rebounds with five apiece.

Malone will next compete against NAIA Div. II #7 ranked Walsh University in a home contest on Thursday (Feb. 17th) at 7:30 p.m.   This contest will be broadcast on WNPQ 95.9 FM and can also be heard at www.thelight959.comLive Stats will also be available for this contest.
